About the Founder
Kristin L. Mack, DO, MS, FAAFP, is board-certified physician in Family Medicine, OMT, and Addiction Medicine whose career bridges clinical care, individual empowerment, education, advocacy, analytics, and health leadership.
With over a decade of direct clinical experience, Dr. Mack has also trained physicians and healthcare professionals across NY to treat substance use disorders effectively and compassionately. Her teaching extends into academic medicine, where she designs and delivers advocacy and rural health curricula for medical students and residents.
She has authored or contributed to numerous publications, including in Family Doctor and MedPage Today, and has designed innovative programs including an rural access telemedicine model in 2018, Vitalist Program, and most recently an empathy program for training physicians known as the Walk-A-Mile Project.
Beyond the classroom and the clinic, Dr. Mack is a trusted expert on public health strategy, serving on numerous committee, boards, and task forces. In these roles, she brings physician insight to complex community health challenges, guiding systems-level improvements that strengthen prevention, treatment, and equity. She enjoys an active role in shaping health policy at both the state and national levels, serving on the NYSAFP Board, reference committees, and as a delegate at both state and national levels.
Empathy - Ethics - Science - Advocacy - Action
Mindful Medical Mentor, LLC was born from a simple but urgent realizations: today’s physicians need more than excellent clinical training to thrive —and our healthcare system needs physicians who are empowered to lead beyond the exam room.
Modern medical education excels at teaching diagnosis and treatment, yet often leaves little space for developing the skills that sustain meaningful, effective careers. Advocacy, community engagement, cultural humility, and a deep understanding of the social determinants of health are no longer “extras”—they are essential tools for improving access to care and for helping physicians practice medicine in ways that align with their values. Teaching these skills is about more than professional development; it is about restoring purpose, empathy, and agency to the work of caring for people and communities.
At the same time, evidence-based medicine and scientific reasoning—core strengths of the physician perspective—have been increasingly drowned out by the noise of an overly complex healthcare system. Policy debates, media narratives, and organizational decisions too often move forward without the grounded voice of clinicians who understand both the science and the human impact of care. Mindful Medical Mentor is motivated by the need to bring that voice forward: to translate expertise clearly, advocate responsibly, and ensure that medical decision-making remains rooted in evidence, compassion, and real-world clinical experience.
This work exists at the intersection of education, advocacy, and communication—supporting physicians not only to practice excellent medicine, but to shape the systems, policies, and conversations that determine how care is delivered for all.
